Cancer treatments can be a heavy financial burden but needy patients may be eligible for support from the NCIS Endowment Fund. The Fund caters to patients in need who fall through the gaps in-between a needy patient's CPF-based medical funds and the various Government assistance schemes.
A Patient's Story
Here is the story of Mr K A Goh, a 52-year old father of two who was helped by the NCIS Endowment Fund after he was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS), a group of disorders affecting the blood and bone marrow.
"After I was diagnosed with cancer, I was unable to work. As I was a permanent resident, I was not eligible for Medifund and my wife had to quit her job as a factory operator to care for me.
Our savings soon ran out.
However, we found out about the Endowment Fund and applied for it. We received assistance of almost $10,000 over two years to help pay for my consultation visits, tests, stem cell transplant and medications.
I am very grateful for the help NCIS has given me. It has given me a another chance to live and enjoy precious moments with my family."
How You Can Help
Your donations to the NCIS Endowment Fund can help patients like Mr Goh who have no other means to obtain aid to pay for his treatment and medications.
Patients who apply for financial assistance are carefully screened according to guidelines set by the Ministry of Health. Only when other avenues of aid have been exhausted will NCIS award funding to patients, in proportion to their needs.
