Dr Edmund Chiong graduated with the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 1995. He obtained 2 postgraduate qualifications (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons In Ireland) in 2000. Upon completion of his urology specialist training in 2005, he was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. Dr Chiong subsequently completed a 2-year fellowship program in Urologic Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, USA. He is also certified by the Society of Urologic Oncology, USA. Dr Chiong’s subspecialty interests include managing and performing surgery for prostate cancers, bladder cancers, kidney cancers, testes cancers, penile cancers, and performing DaVinci robotic surgery. He started the Prostate Cancer Cryotherapy service in NUH in 2011. Dr Chiong also manages general urologic diseases and is a kidney transplant surgeon with the Ministry of Health’s renal transplantation team. Apart from clinical practice, Dr Chiong is also actively involved in both clinical and laboratory research. His research interests include investigating immunotherapy, gene therapy and targeted therapy for bladder cancer and new diagnostic modalities for urologic malignancies. He is an investigator in several grant-funded, clinical and basic science research projects. Dr Chiong has won a number of academic awards, authored or co-authored a number of papers in peer-reviewed journals, and has presented more than 60 abstracts at regional or international scientific meetings. He is also a reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals. Dr Chiong is currently an Executive Committee member and a life member of the Singapore Urological Association. He is also a member of the American Urological Association and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
