Born in the Southern State of Kerala in India, Associate Professor Madhavan moved to Poona for his medical studies . After completing his MBBS, he joined the prestigious PGIMER in Chandigarh for an MS programme which was completed in 1982 after which he continued working as a Senior Resident for 18 months . Following short stints in Kerala and Kuwait, he started his Higher Surgical training in the UK in 1990 and on completion was appointed Consultant Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 1996. After working as a Consultant HPB and Transplant surgeon there for 11 years, he moved to Singapore as a Senior Consultant Surgeon and Associate Professor at the YLLSOM in the National University of Singapore.
