Dr Wong was born in Australia and graduated with a Medicine/Arts degree from the University of Melbourne in 2002. He received his fellowship in Anatomical Pathology from the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in February 2011, before moving to Singapore in August 2011 so that his children could live with their grandparents.
