Dr Sein Lwin is a Programme Director of the NUHS Neurosurgical Residency Training, Director of Neurocritical Unit in National University Hospital and Assistant Professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
Dr Sein completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Medicine (1), Yangon in 1994 and received a Master of Medicine (General Surgery) in 1999 from the same university. He completed a general surgical training and became a Member of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2004. Subsequently he received a Master of Medicine in General Surgery from National University of Singapore in 2006.
Dr Sein started his neurosurgical specialty training in National University Hospital, Singapore in 2004. He received a scholarship award from Ministry of Health in 2007 and continued his advanced neurosurgical specialty training in Queen’s Hospital, London, UK from 2007 to 2011. During his neurosurgical training in the UK, he completed a fellowship in neurovascular training in London.
He successfully passed the United Kingdom Joint Committee of Specialty Board Intercollegiate Neurosurgical Examination in 2011 and awarded a FRCS-Surgical Neurology in the same year. After completion of his neurosurgical training, he continued the endoscopic skull base training in University of Pittsburgh, USA in 2012.
Dr Sein’s areas of expertise include brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVM), cavernous malformation, carotid disease, extracranial to intracranial bypass surgery, spinal AVM and dural fistula, acoustic neuromas, meningiomas, pituitary tumors and skull base tumors, astrocytomas, fourth ventricular tumors, brainstem tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm and complex spine surgery.
Dr Sein has been involved as a co-investigator as well as a principle investigator in many international neurosurgical studies and research since 2004. Currently he is a principle investigator for the serum biomarkers in mild to moderate traumatic brain injury study together with the National University of Singapore.
