The prevention of gastric cancer is increasingly centred on global “screen-and-treat” strategies targeting Helicobacter pylori, a major modifiable risk factor. 

Building on insights from the IARC Working Group, this session will examine the latest evidence supporting population-based screening and eradication, particularly in high-risk regions, while highlighting variations in implementation shaped by healthcare resources, disease burden, and policy frameworks. It will address key challenges, including cost-effectiveness, antibiotic resistance, and equitable access, and emphasise the importance of integrated efforts across public health, clinical practice, and research. Ultimately, the discussion underscores how coordinated global strategies can translate evidence into effective, scalable interventions for gastric cancer prevention.

This session will feature Dr. Jin Young Park, who leads the Gastric Cancer Prevention Team at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC/WHO) whose key work focuses on advancing global strategies for gastric cancer prevention through large-scale epidemiological studies and clinical trials.
