The NCIS Annual Research Meeting (NCAM) 2025 has successfully concluded, marking a significant milestone in the field of cancer research. This year's conference, centered on the theme "Early Cancer Detection & Prevention," brought together leading experts, researchers, and healthcare professionals for two days (26 & 27 September 2025) of insightful discussions and presentations.
The event kicked off with an inspiring opening address by Prof John Wong Eu-Li, who challenged Singapore to enhance its efforts in early cancer screening. Throughout the conference, attendees were treated to a range of educational sessions by A/Prof Mikael Hartman, Prof Lee Soo Chin, and A/Prof Too Heng-Phon, who shared their expertise on various aspects of cancer prevention and detection. A highlight of the event was the plenary session delivered by Prof Dennis Lo, who provided valuable insights on new frontiers for cancer detection using cell-free DNA.
NCAM 2025 also featured inspiring "Hear-the-Journey" talks by Dr Nesaretnam Barr Kumarakulasinghe and Prof Paul Anantharajah Tambyah, offering personal perspectives from accomplished professionals in the field. The conference's satellite symposium focused on catalyzing research in primary care and cancer, providing a platform for in-depth discussions on the future of cancer research in primary care settings.
The event saw an impressive 125 abstract submissions across six categories, with 44 selected for oral and poster presentations. In recognition of outstanding contributions to cancer research and care, 24 awards were presented to deserving recipients.
Overall, NCAM 2025 proved to be a resounding success, advancing our understanding and approach to early cancer detection and prevention. It has set a strong foundation for future progress in this critical field, embodying the principle that "An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure."
