He obtained his surgical qualifications from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSEd) in 2001 and Master of Medicine in Surgery (Singapore) in 2003. He completed advanced specialist training in Urology in 2006 and currently serves as Senior Consultant, Clinical Director, and Director of Endourology at the Department of Urology, National University Hospital (NUH). He also holds appointments as Head of the Division of Urology at Alexandra Hospital and Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore.

His clinical expertise covers all aspects of general urology, with a focus on minimally invasive procedures, endourology, laparoscopic surgery, and urologic oncology. He has been instrumental in pioneering several innovative procedures in Singapore. In 2005, he initiated the Day Surgery Transurethral Resection of Prostate (TURP) program at NUH. In 2010, he introduced Transurethral Needle Ablation (TUNA) of the prostate—an outpatient, minimally invasive therapy for benign prostatic enlargement performed under local anaesthesia.
With the increasing availability of advanced technologies for BPH management, Adj A/Prof Chua has been among the first urologists in Singapore trained in UroLift, Rezum, and iTind therapies.
Beyond clinical practice, Adj A/Prof Chua is actively engaged in research and medical education. He is a regional trainer in Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy (ESWL) for stone disease and proctors’ fellow clinicians in Singapore and across the region in Rezum, UroLift, iTind, and other endourologic procedures.
In recognition of his contributions to clinical service, education, and research, Adj A/Prof Chua was recently conferred the NUH-NUS Medicine Master Academic Clinician Award—an honour that celebrates excellence and leadership in academic medicine.
