Understanding your patient type

Your care costs will differ depending on whether you are a private (non-subsidised) or subsidised patient.

Private (non-subsidised) Patient

You will be treated as a private patient if:

• You are referred to NUH by a public healthcare doctor and choose a specific doctor (regardless of seniority)
• You are referred to NUH by a private doctor or hospital.
• You were previously admitted to class A or B1 wards
• You continue follow-up care as a private patient

What this means for you:

• You can choose your doctor
• You will receive care from a team of doctors
• Fees are charged at full rates with no subsidies

Subsidised Patient (For Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents only)

You may be treated as a subsidised patient if you are referred from:

• Polyclinics
• A&E or outpatient clinics at restructured hospitals
• Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) GP clinics
• MOH-approved voluntary welfare organisations

If you were previously admitted to class B2 or C wards, your follow-up visits will remain subsidised.

What this means for you:

• You will receive care from a team of doctors assigned to you
• You may see different doctors at each visit
• Fees are subsidised based on eligibility and means testing
  
  

Outpatient Charges

Please refer to the outpatient charges below.

Important note

1. Charges will differ for Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents, Resident Foreigners and Non-Residents.
2. Charges for subsidised patients are based on eligibility for government subsidies and may vary depending on the patient's means test subsidy level.
3. For subsidised patients, GST is absorbed by the hospital. For private patients, charges include 9% GST.
4. Charges may change over time and are subject to revision without notice.

Inpatient Charges

If you need to be admitted:

• Our team will provide financial counselling and a cost estimate before admission
• A deposit based on the estimated bill is required
• Payment can be made by cash, credit card or NETS
• Additional deposits may be required if your stay is extended

A deposit waiver is possible if you provide:

• A Letter of Guarantee from your employer or insurance company
• A valid insurance or benefit card
• Medisave or Civil Service Concession (CSC) card
